U & I Microfinance CEO Job in Kenya

A fast growing dynamic Micro finance institution, in the final stages of obtaining a deposit taking license from CBK to become a DTM, is seeking a competent, focused and results oriented officer.

They must be mature graduates, able to lead a large team and have extensive leadership and people skills, marketing and business generation experience of 10+ years preferably in a financial services and microfinance with proven track record.

The selected candidate has to be self driven and capable of managing their own schedules and obtain results as well as deliver expected outputs with no supervision.

The person will be reporting to the Board

Requirements

The selected candidate is expected to be fully familiar with the following:-

  • Microfinance credit and lending operations and group management.
  • Management of a large team of people
  • An understanding of deposit taking operations.  Persons with experience in a Deposit taking Microfinance environment will have a distinct advantage
  • Thorough understanding of operating and compliance aspects of financial institutions e.g.

The selected candidate will assist U& I Microfinance Ltd in detailed and continuous review both of a transactional and risk based internal audit of the company.

She/he shall review transactions in all areas covering but not limited to:-

Accounting and Records

  • Routine financial transactions in the various ledgers
  • Integrity of sampled records. The job holder will be expected to work their own programme and in many cases do 100% sampling.
  • Application of the materiality concept in various transactions

Financial Control

  • Review of  variance Reports
  • Review and authentication of Reconciliation reports
  • Regular review of budgets
  • Review of adherence to financial and accounting policies
  • Review of management cost control

Non Performing Loans

  • Review of the integrity of the loan approval process and transactions
  • Review of the collection process
  • Review of PAR Reports

Revenue and Cost Management

  • Review of revenue collection and accuracy
  • Review of system leakages in revenue collection
  • Review of cost management processes in place

Asset Management

  • Continuous review of Asset sweating and use
  • Review of portfolio of assets and exposure levels

Regulatory and Compliance

  • Review of adherence to regulatory requirements including statutory remittances like PAYE, NHIF, NSSF, Corporation Tax, W/Tax etc
  • Review of timely payments of rents, staff, and supplier payments
  • Review of statutory submissions of returns to regulators e.g. CBK, Registrar of Companies

Risk management

  • Review of application of various Accounting Standards in Risk Management
  • Review of asset quality, e.g. Loans, Investment portfolio etc.
  • Review of processes on a continuous basis
  • Review of ICT systems and the transactional processes
  • Review of COB and BCP processes monthly
  • Review and detection/sealing of possible loopholes in fraud management
  • Liaising with Credit Risk team to ensure no unnecessary exposure to possible bad debts
  • Conducting Monthly and/or periodic cash checks
  • Conducting Monthly and/or periodic customer visits

Requirements

  • The ability to prepare bids for large construction projects, bring on board/work with other technical and financial experts such as: engineers; project developers; architects; and others;
  • A good understanding of the East, Central and Southern African construction landscape and the challenges that it poses and the ability to resolve such challenges; and
  • Strong leadership skills and cross cultural awareness.

Deputy Country Director

Reporting to the Kenya Country Director, the Deputy Country Director will provide high level managerial and technical oversight and guidance to Jhpiego Kenya programs.

S/he will work closely with the Country Director, who is responsible for the strategic direction and technical oversight for the Kenya office.

S/he will also work closely with program implementation teams to ensure project resources are applied appropriately (e.g. human, financial and material) and program targets and deadlines are met. Key technical areas for support include
reproductive health, family planning, malaria, TB, HIV/AIDS, maternal, newborn and child health, and urban health.

Responsibilities

  • Provide programmatic and strategic leadership and set priorities for programs in collaboration with the Country Director and program teams.
  • Represent Jhpiego to donors and partners.
  • Represent Jhpiego in public and professional circles through meetings and conferences.
  • Supervise program management staff and consultants; oversee preparation of annual work plans, implementation and reporting of project activities.
  • Liaise with Jhpiego/Baltimore technical team to ensure Jhpiego standards and approaches are met.
  • Mentor, support, and manage a team of highly qualified staff and align their efforts in concert with program goals.
  • Contribute to proposal management, design, writing, and editing and contribute to new program development.
  • Guide the analysis, synthesis and reporting of project outputs and results in close collaboration with the M&E team.
  • Provide updates to the County Director on the progress made, direction, approaches and successes of programs and share experiences and lessons learned among staff.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Public Health, Clinical or related field.
  • More than 10 years of professional, progressively more responsible management experience in international public health programs.
  • More than 5 years’ senior level working relationship with international donor agencies’ programs and policies, particularly USAID’s.
  • Previous experience establishing and/or managing a field office for an international health program.
  • Must have demonstrated significant knowledge of one or more of the following areas: reproductive health, child health, TB, malaria and/or HIV/AIDS.
  • First-hand experience in strengthening of health services, health provider training, performance improvement, or supervision.
  • Superior human resource management skills.
  • Trustworthy and track record of impeccable integrity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with pleasant and outgoing personality.
  • Excellent verbal, written communications and presentation skills.
  • Computer literacy, particularly in the use of MS Office.
